Bayou La Batre Shipbuilder Delivers Towboat to Florida Marine Transporters
Horizon Shipbuilding Inc. of Bayou La Batre recently delivered a towboat it built for Florida Marine Transporters.
Horizon delivered the 140-foot-long M/V Dennis J. Pasentine on March 12 to the Florida company, which moves cargo through inland waterways across the country.
The boat was the second of five 140-foot tugboats Horizon is building for the Florida company. On Feb. 28, it launched the third of those boats, the M/V Rusty Zeller. It is scheduled for delivery in June.
Horizon is also building six 120-foot towboats for the Florida company. The first is scheduled to be launched in the spring.
Horizon employs about 250 people at its facility on Shell Belt Road, where it designs, builds and repairs ships. The company, which was founded in 1997, recently received a Governor’s Trade Excellence Award and was featured on CNN on Thursday.
